L-Arginine Shortage Minimize

Doe & Ingalls has reported to Rx-360 that it is seeing a demand surge for the amino acid L-Arginine, which is causing extended lead times that are expected to last into 2nd Quarter of 2012.

Situation Drivers:

L-Arginine is used in the Biotech and Pharmacetical markets, but L-Arginine has many applications in nutraceuticals, animal feed and food & beverage. Recently, increased demand has been caused by the new formulations in toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

Recommended Actions:

Firms who use L-Arginine should consider taking the following actions:

  • Contact your suppliers of L-Arginine and assure their ability to supply
  • Assess and understand the L-Arginine supply chain for vulnerabilities that could cause supply interruptions and product authentication concerns
  • Secure a supply of L-Arginine from a trusted supplier
  • Conduct full analytical testing upon receipt of L-Arginine

Rx360 and Doe & Ingalls are continuing to monitor the situation and will publish updates as necessary.
