Benefits of Membership

Since the mission of the organization is first and foremost designed to protect patients, patients will benefit because the consortium will enhance the security of the supply chain and improve the quality of our products.

Second, regulatory bodies will benefit due to the improved security and quality, allowing them to focus their limited resources on other areas which are more risky to the public health.

Third, the pharmaceutical drug product manufacturers benefit by protecting their brand image.   Just imagine someone in a crowded room mentioning Valdez, and everyone in the room thinks Exxon. Or if someone now says melamine, everyone thinks of China. By the way, none of these thoughts are positive and having a tarnished brand image leads to lack of consumer confidence and lower sales. In addition, improving quality of raw materials, components, excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients and how they are stored and distributed will reduce rejects, scrap, and investigations; improve cycle times; lead to reduced inventories; and subsequently reduce costs. The shared audit concept will reduce the audit burden to the pharmaceutical drug product manufacturer and allow these resources to be redeployed to other quality efforts, such as working with their suppliers.

Fourth, the suppliers will not have to entertain multiple audits from multiple pharmaceutical drug product manufacturers. For example, a large supplier may host hundreds of individual audits from pharmaceutical companies each year. By replacing these hundreds of audits with a few thorough and broad shared audits, the supplier will be able to reduce the burden of audits and their costs. In addition, by using the standardized consortium Pre-Audit Questionnaire, Quality Agreements and Certificates of Analysis the suppliers can also significantly reduce administrative burden and make automation simpler and faster, thus reducing their overall costs.

Fifth, the third party auditor firms will utilize a common and standardized audit approach, including the audit report, and all auditors will receive the same high quality training, which will make auditors more effective and efficient. In addition, third party audit firms will develop a client base to grow their business.

Finally, the professional and trade organizations will gain access to a set of well-written comprehensive standards and training materials that they can use to benefit their members.
