Message from Chair Minimize

In January 2009, five pharmaceutical quality professionals held a teleconference to launch Rx-360.  We were called to action by one of the most significant crises the industry has ever faced: the illegal and unethical activities that are undermining supply chain integrity and in some cases have resulted in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of the individuals we are trying to serve.
Aware of our common mission across industry – to serve patients -- the vision for Rx-360 was clear: to help assure patient safety by enhancing product quality and authenticity throughout the supply chain.
Nearly two years later, Rx-360 is making great progress.  The consortium was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in June 2009 and now has over 50 member organizations, consisting of suppliers, professional organizations, and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
In September 2010, Rx-360 received a positive advisory opinion from the United States Federal Trade Commission, allowing
the organization to proceed with plans to implement its audit sharing programs within the legal parameters of anti-trust and anti-competition laws.
And now the organization is getting close to realizing one of its four primary goals:  to share appropriate information about supplier audits and conduct joint audits.
Rx-360 is proud of helping the industry identify a shortage of acetonitrile and then developing an analytical method to detect potential economic adulteration of acetonitrile.  This analytical method can be downloaded at www.Rx-360.org.
The organization currently has nine active working groups focusing on creating the Rx-360 auditing infrastructure, monitoring the global environment and sharing timely and relevant information. Rx-360’s web site (www.Rx-360.org) is a resource for quality professionals and others. The website disseminates educational materials, as well as provides information and recommendations to help the community safeguard the integrity of the supply chain.  In addition, Rx-360 utilizes E-Mail Flash Reports, LinkedIn and Twitter to disseminate information.
Rx-360 is well on its way to fulfilling its mission to develop and implement a global quality system that meets the expectations of industry and regulators and helps assure patient safety by enhancing product quality and authenticity throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain.  However, securing the supply chain is a journey that will require constant and continuous improvement by all interested parties.  I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the new Board, especially Ms. Lynne Byers who will assume the position of Board Chair in 2011.  I look forward to continuing to work with the all of you in my new capacity as Board member as we push forward to fully realize this mission and protect patients worldwide.
If you would like more information on membership, please contact the Rx-360 Secretariat at rx360info@dbr.com
